The road
Highway 1 climbs from the coastal plain through the Judean hills (Sha'ar HaGai and the Harel interchange) into Jerusalem. Hotels inside or right next to the Old City walls are reached on foot from the nearest gate where cars may stop — the driver helps with the bags.
Worth stopping
- The road passes Latrun and Abu Ghosh — fine for a coffee stop if you are not in a hurry.
Good to know
- Ultra-Orthodox neighbourhoods close some streets to traffic on Shabbat; we plan the route to your hotel accordingly.
- Ben Gurion's official taxi stand charges by the meter; at night and on Shabbat the meter tariff rises by about 20–40%. Our price is fixed when you book, with the same rule applied openly.
- Going on to the Dead Sea later? See Jerusalem to the Dead Sea (1.5 h).
