How much does a private driver cost in Israel in 2026?

In Israel a private transfer from Ben Gurion costs $110 to Tel Aviv and $195 to Jerusalem per sedan with RideIL; a car with driver for the day is $615 (sedan) to $1,595 (minibus). Night, Shabbat and holiday hours add 20–40%, like the official taxi tariff. A licensed guide is extra. Prices checked .

What makes Israel more expensive than its neighbours

Drivers' wages, fuel (₪8.27 per litre of 95-octane from 1 October 2026, Ministry of Energy) and vehicle costs are high, and the official taxi tariff itself rises at night, on Shabbat and holidays. Long routes such as Eilat or the Dead Sea include the driver's empty drive back.

Taxi, transfer or car with driver?

A metered taxi is fine for short hops in a city. For airport arrivals, Shabbat and long routes a fixed-price private transfer avoids surprises. If you plan several stops in one day, a car with driver by the day is usually cheaper than separate transfers.

Guides

Guiding tourists in Israel requires a Ministry of Tourism licence, so a driver may not act as your guide. Licensed private guides commonly charge around $500 per day for the guide alone (israeliguide.com private-tour rates); with RideIL a licensed guide is +$600 per day.

Questions

Is it cheaper to rent a car?

For a self-drive rental you pay the car, fuel, Highway 6 tolls and parking, and you drive yourself — often cheaper for long stays, but parking in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv is hard and expensive. A driver costs more but solves parking, Shabbat and airport logistics.

Do I need to tip the driver?

Tipping is not required. If you were happy with the service, a tip is appreciated.
