The road

South past Beersheba, then either Route 40 through Mitzpe Ramon and the Ramon Crater, or Route 90 down the Arava valley along the Jordanian border. Both are good desert roads; the driver takes a 15–20 minute rest stop on the way.

Worth stopping

  • Mitzpe Ramon: the Ramon Crater rim viewpoint (Route 40).
  • Yotvata on Route 90 is the classic coffee-and-ice-cream stop before Eilat.

Good to know
